1936 HIGHWAY PATROL STATION MUSEUM DEDICATION

ROCKWOOD – Civic group Rockwood 2000 announces the dedication of the historic 1936 Highway Patrol Station on June 3rd at 10:30 am.  Keynote speaker at the Dedication will be Tennessee Department of Safety Commissioner Fred Phillips.

The renovated Patrol Station will serve as a museum complete with memorabilia and photographs from Tennessee law enforcement officers.  Located on the corner of Kingston Avenue and Nelson Street, this station was among the first built during the 1930’s in eastern Tennessee to promote safety in the increasingly mobile United States populace, and to combat the illicit transportation of alcohol along the notorious “Thunder Road”.   Kingston Avenue was formerly the “Dixie Highway” which served as a major north/south thoroughfare for travelers.

The museum will be open for special events such as the annual Rockwood Fall Festival, the Rockwood 2000 Christmas Homes Tour and is available for field trips by scheduling in advance with J.W. Cisson at (865) 354-0555.
